Home Hopes

by Von Torres

I returned to my hometown

And found that my parents have not changed.

They continue to garden and plant their roots

while my brother goes in and out.

My parents have not changed,

they watch TFC and listen

while my brother goes in and out

opening and closing the garage.

They watch TFC and listen

to the sounds of Tagalog and

the opening of the garage

hoping for their son to bring a Pinay

where a smile is waiting.

The sound of Tagalog and

the smell of breakfast comes through the window

hoping for their son to bring a Pinay

where a smile is waiting.

The smell of breakfast comes through the window.

They continue to garden and plant their roots

Where a smile is waiting

As I return to my hometown.
